MIRAMAR, Fla. – Spirit Airlines Inc. will add six cities including Minneapolis and Philadelphia to its routes from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the airline said Monday.
The expansion would push Spirit to 26 cities served from DFW, including flights that have been announced but not started.
The airline, which charges low fares but depends more heavily than other airlines on extra fees, said it will add daily nonstop flights from DFW to New Orleans and less-frequent flights to Fort Myers, Fla.; Latrobe, Pa.; Minneapolis; and Philadelphia. It also filed for government approval to fly between DFW and Los Cabos, Mexico.
New Orleans service will start in January with a second daily flight to be added in June, the airline said. Flights to others will start between April and June. Fort Myers will be seasonal service from Nov. 8 through April 24.
Shares of Miramar-based Spirit were down 10 cents to $22.65 in afternoon trading.
