Laura Ashley opens first boutique hotel on English estate
Aug 12th 2013, 12:06

Laura Ashley has come a long way since those matchy-match floral patterns from the 1980s.

The British design house today has opened its first boutique hotel in an old English manor house decorated in the company's latest interiors collection that lets guests buy decor items to furnish their own homes.

The Manor hotel in Elstree, Hertfordshire, just outside on London, is an old Tudor revival estate dating back to 1540 with 49-bedrooms on 10 acres.  Each room has a different design with the brand's cozy yet elegant signature style.  Along with the high-design interiors, the hotel has a fine dining restaurant, Cavendish, the Terrace Bar, wedding facilities—and a giant garden chess set.  Laura Ashley says it tried to keep many on the original features of the estate, such as the front door, which was originally part of the dungeon at Lewes Castle.

Rates start at $230 for a standard bedroom and go up to nearly $800 for its premium suites.

Think sipping high tea on the verandah, while taking in views of London in the distance.
