Even customer service comes with a fee now.
Spirit Airlines is switching its toll-free customer help numbers to the not-free 801 area code.
The ultra-low-cost airline that brought us $100 carry-on bag fees says this most recent cost cutting measure helps keep ticket prices low.
"Our new numbers are allowing us to keep our costs low, which we in turn continue to pass along to our customers by way of the ultra-low fares they have come to know and love," airlines spokesperson Misty Pinson told the Los Angeles Times.
The change to the 801 area code--which is near near Salt Lake City--will likely only affect customers calling from a landline, at about $0.05 to $0.18 per minute, depending on the phone plane.
Spirit currently has over 70 fees they charge passengers, notes the L.A. Times -- all of which are the airline's way of continuing to offer low basic fares.
Next up: fees to use the lavatory?
