UNION, Ky. – Visitors to Big Bone Lick State Park later this month can learn more about the ancient creatures that once roamed the area.
The Great Outdoor Weekend will be Sept. 22 and 23 at the park in Boone County in northern Kentucky.
Paleontologists, archaeologists and historians from the Cincinnati Museum Center and the Friends of Big Bone will provide interpretive commentary on the Ice Age, Native Americans and fossil mammals as well as the geology and native vegetation of the area. Visitors can tour the trails, bring artifacts and fossils to be identified by the staff and visit an 1800s-era campsite.
Tours and other programs will be conducted from noon to 4 p.m. EDT each day.
